Cybersafety Presentations for students in years 5 and 6 and for parents
Please see information below and ensure that you RSVP for the parent session at the link below as we require at least 15 parents to run this session.
The Department of Education's Cybersafety and Reputation Management team (CRM) advises, investigates and supports schools to manage online behaviours and digital reputation issues. Within this scope, the team draws on their diverse experience, including police investigation, policy, social media marketing, and recruitment, to deliver up-to-date informative sessions about positive social media use.
The CRM team will be visiting Graceville State School on Tuesday 23 November. They will be conducting sessions with students in Year 5 & 6, and are also offering a parent and caregiver information session at 5pm. The parent session is an overview of cybersafety, trending platforms, online dos and don’ts, and useful settings to be aware of. This session goes for about 60 minutes, and will allow parents to ask questions throughout.
Please RSVP your attendance here.
You can read more about the department’s cybersafety program and resources on their Facebook page:

Sun Safety Policy for Graceville State School
It is mandated that all state schools will have a sun safety policy in place for the start of the 2022 school year. Year-round sun protection is important for all children and young people in Queensland as research demonstrates that high ultraviolet radiation (UVR) exposure in childhood and adolescence significantly increases the risk of developing skin cancer.
We are offering the opportunity for parents of GSS to be involved in the formulation of the policy and hear about the elements. We will be holding a meeting on Monday November 15 just after drop off at 8:45am in the Waratah room for any interested parents.

Year 6 Graduation
We are starting to organise the Year 6 Graduation event on 7th December. Myself and a Year 6 teacher have met with the 4 School Captains parents to do some initial planning. It will surely be a wonderful night for students, staff and parents. More information will be coming out shortly.
Booklists for 2022
I am waiting to get the final booklists back from Campions. That should happen very soon. Once this is ready we will send out the information to parents to order online. Parents who have applied for the Enhancement Program for either a current Year 2 or 4 child, will need to hold off ordering until the classes are released to parents in the last week of school. There will be separate booklist for the 3 /4 & 5/6 classes. The online ordering system will be open for the week after school finishes in December.
Music News

This week all of our string students performed at the Senior Assembly. We were able to invite one guest per child to this performance as an opportunity for our students to share their music. Thank you to Mr Chin and all of our string students for their hard work preparing for this performance! It is lovely to hear our ensembles perform again this year. We hope our Beginner Strings, Junior Strings and Senior String enjoyed this opportunity to share their music.
As confirmed previously in our Newsletter and the Spring Fair performance timetable, the Senior Band, Junior Choir and Senior Choir will be performing at the Spring Fair. Please note that the Spring Fair performances will be held in an outdoor area in the quadrangle, which means that these performances will also only be possible in fine weather and if restrictions permit, however we hope they will be able to happen.
In week 6 the Junior Band and Senior Band will be performing at the Senior Assembly. Due to current COVID restrictions, we are inviting one guest/adult per child to the performance. This will be in lieu of a concert, due to our hall space, number of students in the program and current COVID restrictions. Conductors will also be sending out recordings so students have an opportunity to share their music with their families.
Next week we will be recording our songs during our normal choir rehearsals. We will continue choir rehearsals until and including week 7, so the last Junior Choir rehearsal will be on Monday 15 November and the final Senior Choir rehearsal will be on Tuesday 16 November. Thank you to our students and families for consistently attending rehearsals this year! We are looking forward to singing at the Spring Fair and sharing our recordings with you.
We look forward to our upcoming performances!

LIBRARY NEWS - GSS BOOK FAIR 2021
We are fortunate enough to hold our Book Fair this term. However, it will be a STUDENT ONLY event. There will be a terrific range of engaging and affordable books and stationery items for children to purchase.
These items will be on sale to students when they visit during their scheduled Library time between WEDNESDAY 27TH OCTOBER and WEDNESDAY 3rd NOVEMBER.
The Book Fair will also be open to STUDENTS ONLY before School at 8.15, at First Break 11.00 – 11.20 and Second Break 12.55 – 1.15.
THE BOOK FAIR WILL ALSO BE ONLINE.
Here is how the Book Fair works if you decide to buy online:
- Students will complete their wish list at school and take it home. Parents/Carers can view their child’s selected titles or the online catalogue in the scholastic store https://shop.scholastic.com.au/
- Parents/Carers can complete an online order and payment at https://parentpayments.scholastic.com.au/BookFairs
- Students bring their Record of Payment/Receipt (Book Fair Flyer or Wish List) to the library to collect their purchases – these can be collected from the GSS LIBRARY during the advertised book fair opening hours. N.B. If the book is sold out, it will be reordered and delivered to the classroom on arrival.
Students who have purchased books online also have the opportunity to buy any stationery items Before School and during the Lunch Breaks. Stationery items will range in price from $1 - $6.

Our year four and five students have returned from their respective camps with many exciting tales to share. These camps are a great experience for students, where they participate in a variety of activities, vastly different to the normal school routine. I would like to acknowledge the wonderful attitudes of our students, excitedly taking on the challenges and supporting one another. One of the highlights for me is the cabin inspection times, in particular, the spot inspection. This year all cabins were very presentable and the competition was of a very high standard. I can only assume this means our year four and five parents have some extremely tidy children’s bedrooms. The attention to detail on year five was most impressive.
With camps completed for the year, our focus now turns to the Spring Fair. This will be an awesome day and opportunity for Graceville to come together and celebrate our school. It will be a busy time for many but I am convinced all the smiling faces, Saturday week will make it all worth-wile. Come and be part of this wonderful weekend and a huge thank you to all those working hard, behind the scenes to prepare for this incredible event.
Have a fantastic week!

Uniform Shop
Michelle Fanning
Welcome to week 4!
It’s been a busy couple of weeks with new families already buying uniforms for next year and current families buying from our online store.
Stock is starting to get low, but of course I have ordered more. I'm hoping the majority of it will arrive within the next 4 weeks. Sadly Covid is still a cause for delay with a few of our suppliers, but I have been assured they are doing their best to help as much as they can during this peak selling/buying period.
DRESSES
Please note that due to fabric issues we now have limited stock in our dresses. I will not be ordering any more in the near future so if you know you would like one for next year, please don’t delay!
PLAN AHEAD WITH AN APPOINTMENT
Term 4 is extremely busy with many new Prep parents and new families needing attention. Stock flies out the door in record time so to avoid missing out and waiting periods, you can easily book an appointment ahead of time via the link below.
OPENING DAYS AND TIMES FOR
TERM 4
We will remain appointment only as well as having the online store for easy ordering. The appointment days are Tuesday and Thursday of each week from 8:15am – 10:15am
https://square.site/book/BK0ECAMTFYMHG/graceville-state-school-p-c-association-graceville-qld
For any reason you cannot make your appointment time, please cancel online asap so others don’t miss out. When visiting the store, it’s important to enter and exit the school grounds via the Oxley Road gate near the tennis courts. The uniform store is located just to the left of the courts.
ONLINE STORE
The uniform shop has an online store, so if you already know what your child needs you can order and pay online and it will be sent to your child’s classroom.
PLEASE NOTE – When buying online please add your child’s FULL NAME and CLASS on the FIRST page. Thank you.
The online store and appointment bookings can be made via the following link -
https://gss-pandc.square.site/
DONATIONS
We are always grateful for donations of 2nd hand uniforms that are in freshly washed, saleable condition with no tears or holes We also ask that donations are our SCHOOL BRANDED ITEMS ONLY, so no items from any outside stores. Thank you for your generosity and understanding.
PAYMENT
We encourage you to use Eftpos or credit cards when purchasing.
REFUNDS
Please be advised that refunds will only be given if you have the original receipt and items should not have been washed, worn and any tags should still be attached.
