14 October 2021

From the Principal

Zoe Smith

Hello,

Welcome to Term 4!

The Spring Fair is on and we are now in full swing preparations. The committee are amazing and are committed to making this a great day! WE NEED YOUR HELP! The volunteer roster has gaps to be filled. If you have not yet put your name down to help out, please contact your class rep. The student market stall has some great products and we hope you can come along from 11am to 1pm to have a look and make some purchases! There will also be food, rides, entertainment and fireworks!

This is a big term. We have so many activities happening!

  • Year 5 camp 13-15 October
  • Year 4 camp 21-22 October
  • P&C meeting 20 October 7.30pm
  • Sport and Music photos 26 October
  • World Teachers Day 28 October
  • Spring Fair 6 November
  • Year 6 Graduation 7 December

The P&C meeting is on Wednesday 20 October at 7.30pm. All parents are welcome to attend or zoom into the meeting. Please see the P&C for details in how to zoom into the meeting.

We will be starting our student leadership process for 2022 very soon. I wish all of the children who have nominated for positions the best of luck in the process.

Don’t forget we have a public holiday on 29 October! No children come to school that day.

I am going to both school camps this term, so please be aware that I will not be able to respond to communications while away. If important, please call the office rather than email and a Deputy Principal will be able to help you.

Have a great day,

Zoe Smith

Safety issue

This week we had an issue with a student bringing a glass water bottle to school. This bottle ended up smashing on the ground and an injury occurred. If you use these type of water bottles at home, please make sure your child doesn’t bring them to school. Any glass items can easily break and cause an injury. I also suggest leaving glass storage containers at home.

Year 6 Graduation – Tuesday 7th December

A ‘Save the date’ flyer was sent home to all Year 6 parents this week, for our Graduation. It will be at the Riverlife church at 17 Mile Rocks again this year. Last year was the first time we had the Graduation at an outside venue and it was very successful, as well as COVID safe. In the next couple weeks, myself and a Year 6 teacher representative will meet with the School Captain’s parents, to start the process involved with organising this event. Everyone will receive further information after this meeting.

Music News

Naomi Lindh

Last week we were able to hold our annual 2 day instrumental workshop for all of our instrumental students. This involved students alternating between full ensemble rehearsals and playing in small groups with a specialist. The workshop had been postponed from term 3 due to the lockdown. It was fabulous to have our hall filled with music again! Students performed a concert for some year levels and although we were not able to have parents/guests present due to space limitations and current COVID guidelines, it provided students with the experience of performing, listening to each other play and the opportunity for some of our students to hear the band and string ensembles. Thank you to our teachers, Mr James Kukulies and Mr Alex Chin, all of our IM students and also our visiting tutors for their hard work over the 2 days. We hope our students enjoyed the opportunity to improve their skills and musicianship at the workshop!

Thank you to the students who have returned an expression of interest to join the instrumental music program in 2022. Our instrumental teachers will meet with all of the students who have returned an EOI and will be considering a range of important factors as part of the recruitment process. Instrumental offers for 2022 will be sent out by the end of the term.

We have been working on arrangements for some musical performances at the Spring Fair. We are now able to confirm that the Senior Band, Junior Choir and Senior Choir will be performing. There are a number of logistical factors we have needed to take into consideration to finalise these plans. We are also organising performances for all instrumental ensembles at an assembly this term. Please see the performance times below. It is important for us to have all members present for these performances. Please note that the Spring Fair performances will be held in an outdoor area in the quadrangle, which means that these performances will also only be possible in fine weather and if restrictions permit, however we hope they will be able to happen.

Additional performances for the string and band students have been finalised for this term. Due to current COVID restrictions, we are inviting one guest/adult per child to the performance. These will be in lieu of a concert, due to our hall space, number of students in the program and current COVID restrictions. Conductors will also be sending out recordings of our choral and instrumental students performing so students have an opportunity to share their music with their families.

We look forward to our upcoming performances!
