Principal

Zoe Smith

Hello,

We are officially halfway through the term! Time is flying!

I would like to congratulate all of our shortlisted School Captain nominees for 2020. It was a privilege to hear their speeches on Thursday afternoon. The four School Co-Captains for 2020 will announced at an assembly on 14 November.

Monday the 11th is Remembrance Day. As a school we will take time out to create awareness for our students and reflect. We hope you are able to take the time on Monday, where ever you may be, to pause and reflect at 11am on Monday.

Next Wednesday night is our annual Music Concert. The music concert is a great night. I suggest arriving early to get a good seat. I am always amazed by the performances of our ensembles.

As you may be aware on Saturday 16th November, our school is hosting a movie night! Hopefully the weather will be great and we can enjoy a movie in the outdoors! I am looking forward to it! Please save the date and come along and have some fun with us.

In next week’s newsletter I hope to share some of the Affirmations from our school review. We greatly appreciated the participation of the students, teachers and parent reps in the process. We unpacked the review Affirmations and Recommendations as a staff this week and are feeling both happy and excited about what lies ahead for us in the next four years.

Have a great week,
Zoe

Music News

Naomi Lindh

Next Wednesday 13 November, many of our music students will be rehearsing during the day for the evening music concert, including the Senior Band, Beginner/Junior Strings, Senior Strings and Junior Choir. The Junior Band and Senior Choir will rehearse on their usual rehearsal days next week and not on Wednesday during the day. Please ensure your child brings their music and instrument for these rehearsals. Due to the practices and the concert, there will be no Senior Band rehearsal after school (next Wednesday 13 November) and no rehearsals for Senior Band after the evening concert. All of our music students in ensembles and choirs will be performing at this concert on Wednesday 13 November at 6pm. Families and members of the school community are warmly invited to attend our annual music concert. Instrumental students should arrive at 5:30pm for tuning next Wednesday night and choir students should arrive by 5:45pm. We look forward to sharing our music with you at the concert!

There will be a disruption to IM lessons in week 6 due to rehearsals but lessons will continue in week 7. Senior Strings will continue to have lessons and rehearse in week 8 as they will be preparing for their performance including Christmas songs at the Grandparents Concert on 27 November at 10am.

Our Grandparents Concert is scheduled for Wednesday 27 November at 10am. Students in the Junior Choir, Senior Choir and Senior Strings will be performing at this concert and will be able to invite their grandparents/special guests to attend the concert. After these performances they will sing some Christmas carols together followed by a shared morning tea. The invitation for guests and information notes are attached and will be handed out to students at rehearsals over the next week. If you are able to assist with the morning tea (from 9am - 11:20am on Wednesday 27 November) please let me know via email (nclos1@eq.edu.au).

On Saturday 30 November our choir students are invited to sing at the Christian Riverside Church Community Carols evening. Please find the note attached regarding this performance. This will be a combined choir of any students in the Junior and Senior Choirs who are able to attend. The performance from our combined choir will be at 5:30pm. As there has been disruption to the normal Senior Choir rehearsals with the public holiday and PFD this term, any students in the Senior Choir who would like to join Junior Choir rehearsals for some additional practice of the songs we will be singing for this performance are welcome to join at 8:15am (on Wednesdays in the music room)

Tell everyone you know and thank you in advance for your co-operation.

School Plus

Week Four of the term began with a fresh start to the OSHC room with a camping scene. It all began with a tent and a barbecue, from here the children used their imaginations and creativity to extend on this. The before school care children decided to have a look for some food that you would take camping and then added those to their collection. In addition to the barbecue the children made a fire to cook on and then made some marshmallows to cook over the fire. It has been a great addition to the room as there are so many ideas to explore!

Outside this week we have been busy making a new worm farm, enjoying our musical statues and games of handball in the quad. Our current favourite activity is embracing our gymnastic skills on the gym mats.

It has been a great week full of learning and creating!
